Tekua te wairua kia rere ki ngātaumata
Hai ārahi i ā tātou mahi
Ma tā tātou whai i ngā tikanga a rātou mā
Kia mau kia ita
Kia kore ai e ngaro
Kia whakamaua
Kia tina! Tina! Hui e! Tāike e!
Allow ones spirit to exercise its potential
To guide us in our work and in our pursuits
Take hold and preserve it
Ensure it is never lost
Hold fast
Work together
Secure it
“Our strength is not as an individual but as a collective.”
Jazmin is a proud Ngāi Tahu woman, passionate about learning who she is, where she comes from and the value that she can contribute to her whānau, community and the wider world. She is experienced in teaching and learning, assisting children with their development in these crucial years, feeling a sense of pride in working alongside children, creating and offering an environment full of opportunities for learning.
Jazmin considers the first precondition of successful engagement with learning from children as mutual respect. She recognizes the importance of not only respecting children, but demonstrating that respect in every interaction with them. Respecting a child means treating each individual child as a unique human being. Her goal is to enable each child to be authentic. An authentic child is one who feels secure, autonomous, competent, and connected – attributes which are the basis to empower students to reach their full potential.
“It has been evident in conversations that I have had with team members, that The Learner First embodies it’s own vision for contribution and that each member of the team is valued and respected for who they are and what they bring. Our strength is not as an individual but as a collective. What a team to be a part of!”
